Creative Development in New Mexico

The New Mexico Arts, Culture & Creativity Network is a state-wide network to share information, foster collaboration, build community and facilitate innovation within our many creative communities. We are unifying, connecting and supporting New Mexico’s artists and creatives as well as the global creative community in order to sustain our artistic and cultural heritage.

As a collection and distribution channel of cultural data generated by regional, national and international arts institutions, creative businesses and funders, we hope to create an active network of creative professionals sharing opportunities and information while driving our creative economy.

More Information regarding NM Arts, Culture & Creativity Network

New Mexicans are, to a much greater extent than residents of other states, employed professionally as artists and artisans, in galleries and museums, and in other activities and industries most closely associated with the creative aspects of arts and culture. These include but are not limited to: fine arts, museums, libraries, galleries, performance venues, monuments and parks, fairs, festivals, farmers’ markets, historic preservation, heritage and craft industries, cultural tourism, and funders of arts and cultural activities and institutions.

However, throughout the state, there is a shortage of economic resources, educational programs, marketing assistance, grant writers, professional guidance, mentorship and networking opportunities needed to feel empowered in developing a sustainable enterprise.

Human creativity and capacity will drive New Mexico’s future economy as we continue to shift away from natural resource extraction and manufacturing. If we invest in our cultural economy, it can lead to thriving communities, preserve diversity and build social bonds. In addition to offering incentives for corporations to come into New Mexico and supply our communities with jobs, we need to help these creative professionals realize what makes their communities unique and cultivate what is not easily replicable.

We have a unique challenge to promote and embolden our local creative entrepreneurs so we can preserve our collective heritage and cultural diversity while enabling livelihoods around the state.

Our mission is to create a virtual space through which creative organizations and professionals can raise their voices and their issues. We want to enrich the existing networks of geography and of creative practices and professions within New Mexico's many communities. Finally we look to act as a catalyst for creating the enthusiasm and commitment for working together across geographies and creative practices and professions while sharing research and information on national and state policy to gather voices for change. Join us!

The Department of Cultural Affairs is a founding member and sponsor of this network.
